While making 600 drums for others over 20 years, I occasionally made something unique for myself.
(Over time, I did sell a few of them.)
These are my favorite drums: |

This is a 17-inch (43-cm) Round Cougar Drum!
I spent ten years looking for Mountain Lion rawhide before I found one. I have never found another. This drum has an amazing and powerful feel. It still has a bit of the fur on it. |

This is a 17-inch (43-cm) Round Buffalo Fur Drum!
I found someone who "prepared rawhide the old way," and he had one buffalo rawhide with fur. It looked great and I got it. I managed to make several drums from this hide. This has a good tone with all the fur still present, and I "dressed it up" with turquoise stones from old necklaces for its one-of-a-kind look and feel. |
and Caribou Antler Handle |

This is an 18-inch x 14.5-inch (46-cm x 37-cm) Egg-Shaped Buffalo Drum with some fur on the drum skin.
The hide is securely attached to the cedar drum frame with maple pegs. The handle is a "floating" Caribou Antler that is amazing to hold. The sound, feel, and resonance of this drum are outstanding. |

This is a 17-inch (43-cm) Round Buffalo Drum with a wolf face inside it. It is full of wolf energy.
The wolf has soft, winter-quality fur that gives the drum a subdued tone. The wolf hide was a tannery reject. I gave the wolf a spiritual use it would not otherwise have. In my 20 years of drum making, I have not encountered another drum like this. |
with Wood Pegs and Buffalo Rawhide lacing |
![]() ![]() |
This is a 21-inch x 17-inch (53cm x 43-cm) Egg-Shaped Buffalo Drum.
Its head is securely attached to its cedar drum frame with maple pegs. The 4-prong buffalo lacing is "stitched" through the drum frame. This is a big drum with a big sound and a lot of resonance. |
and 3-prong Caribou Antler Handle |

This is an 18-inch Deep Round Buffalo Drum with a colorful and varied heavy skin.
The hide is attached to its deep cedar drum frame with maple pegs.
The 3-prong Caribou Antler handle gives the drum a powerful feeling. The antler is attached to the frame with layers of strong artificial sinew. This drum is extra deep, which gives it additional resonance. This is a drum with a big sound! |
with Caribou Antler Handle |

This is a 16-inch x 12-inch (40-cm x 30-cm) Egg-Shaped Buffalo Drum that is a joy to hold with its Caribou Antler handle.
The handle is attached to the hide with a unique system utilizing artificial sinew. This small drum is lightweight and is perfect for traveling inside a suitcase. |

This is a 24-inch x 21-inch (61-cm x 53-cm) Egg-Shaped Buffalo Drum with a big, booming sound, and it attracts a lot of attention.
This amber-colored thick hide is resistant to humidity changes. |
with fan pattern lacing |

This is an 18-inch (46-cm) Round Buffalo Drum with distinctive fan-pattern lacing.
The lacing is drawn through holes in the drum frame, which gives it a uniquely balanced feel. |
with fan pattern lacing |

This is a 21.5-inch x 18-inch (55-cm x 46-cm) Egg-Shaped Buffalo Drum with unique fan pattern lacing.
The lacing pattern ensures the tension on the drum skin is evenly distributed.
This drum has a fantastic look, feel, and a great tone. |
and Caribou Antler Handle |

This is an 18-inch x 14.5-inch (46-cm x 37-cm) Egg-Shaped Buffalo Drum with a dark, uniform drum skin.
The hide is securely attached to its cedar drum frame with maple pegs. The handle is a "floating" Caribou Antler that gives the drum a solid and powerful feel. The sound, feel, and resonance of this drum are very nice and appealing. |

This is a 20-inch (51-cm) Round Buffalo Drum made from a stronger and thicker hide.
The drum is unique with 24 strands of lacing.
I have not seen another like it.
This drum has a big sound! The extra lacing helps this drum handle varying humidity and temperatures, and it has a better tone in those conditions. The drum head has a "flowing texture" with character and vibrancy. Nearly all the hide is a light tan color, which is perfect for painting my drumming journeys. |
on a Remo Drum |
![]() ![]() |
The Northern European Saami people have a rich shamanic tradition.
This is a re-creation/interpretation of one of their 300-year-old drums.
The basic drum is a Remo, which is artificial, not rawhide. Weather and humidity do not affect its tone. This is an excellent travel drum. The original, loose rope handle has been replaced with a single long strand of easier-to-hold buffalo rawhide. |
