My Statement

I make drums and rattles with respect for the animals & trees who have given their gifts.
I only use the "leavings" -- no animal was killed just for its hide.
From each hide, I cut drumskins, rattle heads and finally drum lacing; nothing is wasted.
I make drums and rattles with prayer and ceremony.

"What is a shaman?," "What are the sources of your hides?," and other commonly asked questions

Welcome!

I make drums and rattles to honor those with whom I have worked and those who have helped me. I have done this for ten years.

I have always had a connection with spiritual pursuits, even as a young child.

The books of Carlos Castaneda (The Teachings of Don Juan, Journey to Ixtlan) spoke to me when I was in my twenties. They were my first source that balanced the ordinary world and the hidden, nonordinary reality.

Thirty years ago, I earned an M.A. in Economics from UCLA. I started my corporate life as a computer programmer. I had a great time doing that, but I was not fulfilled. I began studies with several spiritual teachers and pursued yoga and meditation. Eventually, I found shamanism. In 1993, I left a corporate career behind to live a more fulfilling life. What a wonderful choice!

Sandra Ingerman's books (Soul Retrieval, Welcome Home: Life after Healing) and workshops had a profound effect on me as they introduced me to other spiritual traditions. I've studied extensively with Michael Harner's Foundation for Shamanic Studies and completed the FSS Three Year Program in Advanced Shamanism, a series of life-changing experiences.

I've studied with Michael Harner, Sandra Ingerman, Carol Proudfoot-Edgar, Sarangerel, and many other teachers in the ordinary world.

I love the creative expression found doing spiritual work. (The images on my painted drums and rattles come from my meditative journeys.) I get great satisfaction working with others and helping them along their paths.

I begin each day by drumming and giving thanks. I also do ceremonies in the medicine wheel constructed from the rocks of my land.

My wife Janice and I live in rural Kansas and love it. Our companions are Zoe the Wonder Cat (thrives despite feline leukemia) and our dogs, Chance (a stray who came with the house) and Silver (one of Chance's six puppies).

I do have a wonderful hobby: Old Time Radio Shows; that is, collecting and listening to radio shows from the Golden Age of Radio, generally the 1930s to the 1960s. There are many thousands of these shows. You can listen to them and travel to far-off places whenever you want, and you experience Adventure, Drama, Mystery, Science Fiction, Westerns, and much, much more.
