Painted Drums

When I have the time and inclination, I will paint a drum for a customer or myself. I do this because painted drums are truly magical.

I paint my drums with things I see on my shamanic journeys or the things my customer requests.

These are one-of-a-kind creations -- no two are identical. These are not "silk screened 30-second images." Painting a drum takes up to 7 coats of paint, and it requires about 3 weeks of time to complete.

You Can Paint Your Drum
First, draw your design on a sheet of paper the size of your drum. Look at it ... journey to it.

Next, go to an art supply store and get a good acrylic paint sampler kit with 6-8 colors.
Also purchase a good thin paint brush and a matte fixative spray.

When you are ready to paint, thin the paint with water so that you can apply several coats.
Paint the first coat and let the paint dry, apply the second coat and let the paint dry,
and keep doing this (up to seven coats) until you get your desired image.

When you are done painting, spray the drum with the matte fixative to protect your design.
